Saturday Nine

1. Have you ever felt that you were “made” for someone or some purpose?

Absolutely — all the time, in fact. I know that I am exactly where I’m supposed to be at this time in life, married to Donnie, at home with our boys, homeschooling them. I know that is my purpose. I also know that I was created to write and make things beautiful for other people to enjoy with my art, crafts and cooking. Sometimes I get frustrated when those desires clash with my purpose as a mom — it seems there’s never enough time to fit in many of the fun, creative things I enjoy. But I remind myself that my children are only little for a short while. I’ll have the rest of my life to write and make beautiful things!

2. What do you do when you have a problem that you can’t do anything about it?

Pray. When God is all I have, I find that He is all I need. He has yet to fail me — and I know he never will.

3. If marijuana were to be legalized, do you think it should be taxed?

Like nothing has ever been taxed before.

Maybe.

My inner Libertarian-leanings want to say no to any sort of inflated tax. But marijuana? I mean, really…if you’re stupid enough to use it, then somebody should benefit from the slow murdering of your brain cells. That is IF it’s ever legalized. Which is doubtful.

4. What is one thing you should never do on a first date?

I’m going to sound like the ultimate, old-fart grandma with this response, but I have to say it: kissing on a first date is never a good idea. It just isn’t. So that also means that anything beyond kissing is a really, really, super huge BAD idea. Spoken from personal experience…I didn’t marry the ones who wanted to get physical right away. I married the one who respected me enough to wait until several dates to kiss me, and then he asked if he could. What a man!

5. If someone (at gunpoint) forced you to receive a portrait tattoo of someone, who would it be?

The Holy Spirit. In dove form.

6. Is tomorrow going to be a good day?

I sure hope so! I’m planning to make it a good day by pushing through this autoimmune arthritis flare and submitting some of my work to magazines for potential publication. Wish me luck! (Better yet, pray for favor! Thanks!)

7. Anything fabulous happen to you last night?

Jonah slept from midnight til 5:00 a.m, which is pretty fabulous! But like a dummy, I stayed up writing til nearly 3 and missed all but two hours of it. One of these days I’m going to go to bed when he does and get some real sleep. Of course, the way that usually goes is that those are the nights he’s up every hour! I just have to laugh…

8. For a few years in a row, you receive a nice tax refund: do you make an adjustment with your payroll deduction so they’ll take less, or do you leave it that way so that you can continue to receive the big check every spring?

We adjusted ours to give the government as small a free loan as possible. But because we aren’t rich, and we have kids, we still get an OK refund anyway.

9. When was the last time you had butterflies in your stomach?

On my 20th anniversary this January, when my husband handed me a lovely jewelry box during our dinner date. I couldn’t wait to see what he’d gotten me; it was so unexpected, so romantic and sweet.
