Squeeze with Cheese

Today I’m donning my food critic hat to suggest a local restaurant in Covington: The Squeeze Inn. My friend Lawanna introduced me to the place the other night, and I must say, the burgers were a-a-awesome.

Don’t be deceived by appearances. The restaurant is a tiny hole-in-the-wall, directly across Highway 278 from where the old Covington Wal Mart was located. Just look for a little brown building with a huge yellow awning. You can’t miss it.

We had the Squeeze with Cheese. Check it out:

Mine was rounder than the one in the photo, and I thought it looked like a UFO, or perhaps Saturn with its rings. It appears that they dump a good half-cup or more of shredded cheddar on top of the hamburger as it’s cooking. It partly oozes off and melts into a chewy, crunchy, two-inch-wide ring of YUM that I’ve never experienced on a burger before. And the fries were great, too. And the portions so huge, I brought home at least half the burger and 2/3 of the fries.

I’m not a big burger person ordinarily, but I’ll definitely be back for another squeeze sometime soon. Maybe it’s called that because after a few of these, you can barely squeeze through the door? I swear I could feel my arteries hardening as I ate it, but man, if you’ve gotta get a little atherosclerosis, this is the way to do it!

  1. Wow! What a find! I know Kari outside this site, so if she says it is good, so it must be. I had just gotten off work and was tired, ornery and didn’t really feel like cooking so I used my only remaining option – I phoned a friend. We drove over to east Covington and there it is – The Squeeze Inn. It’s a small restaurant, but when Kari says you will recognize the yellow canopy … she means it! It’s like a beacon in the dark! LOL If you grew up in the South, as I did, this is a typical “burger joint.” Small indoor air-conditioned eating area, large outdoor open-air eating area. The folks are very friendly and seemed to really want you to enjoy your meal. But, when you get ready to order, you’ll see it’s anything BUT typical. The menu is pretty broad and that’s a good thing for people like me. You see, I have this sqeamish thing about the consistency of ground meat: any ground meat, not just beef. When you try to pitch it past my teeth, it just ain’t going, okay. So, Squeeze Inn may be famous for their enormous burgers, but for folks like me, I wanted to know what else they offer. I wasn’t disappointed. I got the Buffalo chicken sandwich. It’s a hefty portion of deep fried chicken fingers, slathered in buffalo sauce, with a blue-cheese condiment with lettuce and tomato! It’s not for a dainty eater, either. There toward the end, I kept saying, I can do this … I can finish this! My buddy ordered two chili dogs, which were juicy, plump and swimming in chili. The french fries are “home cut” meaning they cut the potato just before it takes the dive into the fryer. What emerges is a basket of golden crunchy fries that me and my buddy split, because honestly, being the P-I-G hog that I basically am, I couldn’t have eaten the whole basket alone. I don’t think – but the jury is still out on that one! I know being in the heart of Coca-Cola country, we are expected to order a Coke, but, it goes against my religion not to order iced-tea and the folks never let my cup run dry. You can always judge a place by its iced-tea and this place passed with flying colors! I asked my buddy (who is drawn to a big fat hamburger like a fruit-fly to a peach) why he didn’t order one of the Squeeze burgers … I was sort of disappointed I hadn’t gotten to see one .. but someone from his work had ordered one and he had seen it. He says it was a LOT of food and he wasn’t in the mood to stuff! Hmmmm, it’s been a long time since I wasn’t in the mood to stuff, but I respect his position. LOL Anyway, it truly was an awesome meal, a nice clean little place, a good dollar value and another great suggestion from Kari! I’m ready for the next one! 🙂
